As a part of an independent study that I undertook while pursuing my Master’s degree, I along with 2 of my colleagues, researched and created a syllabus for a potential course about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business for the Master’s in Marketing Program. This course was designed with a focus on applications of Artificial Intelligence in marketing.

The initial phase of collecting data was primary research, where an important insight was that not many other B-schools on the US have a course offered like the one we were proposing. We then conducted a focus group with participants from different programs in the College of Business which allowed us to understand multiple perspectives on the topic and gain a more holistic understanding of the need for such a course.

While researching and preparing for the focus group I was able to gain a much better understanding of Artificial Intelligence, how it works and what its applications could be, specifically with respect to my field of study. The proposed syllabus also included a lot of informative videos, articles, and podcasts that would be relevant to the course.  I was able to learn a lot about AI in the process of finding these sources.

The final deliverable for this independent study was a curated syllabus for a semester-long graduate-level course. The mentor for this study was the director of the MS in Marketing program who was excited about our findings and the final deliverable was sent to the Head of the Marketing Department at the college, who was also impressed by our proposal.
