Head of Press Department

Sympulse is the annual college festival of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, Pune. The event has a footfall of more than 50,000 people and the entire 5-day event is organized and run by an organizing committee of 500 students.

I was the head of the Press Department at Sympulse '18, in charge of all internal and external communications, content (digital & print), and photography coverage for the event.

I managed a team of 20 individuals, consisting of writers, editors, photographers, and designers. My team started, designed, wrote, and released the first official Sympulse magazine, ‘Sympulse Unplugged’. This was circulated internally, for all members of the organizing committee and students of the college. I also established and maintained a good relationship with the Press and Media who covered this event in the local and national news. All articles and other content that was released for print and digital platforms were written by my team and edited by me. Over the 5 days of the festival, I organized and coordinated the writers and photographers to ensure that all of the events were covered and the decided deliverables were met. I also gave the theme for the event 'An Elemental Entourage' which was inculcated into all aspects of the festival.

Working as the head of the department and ensuring the smooth functioning of the department pre, during and post-event really helped to develop my leadership skills. I also learned how to maintain relationships both within my team and externally. Coordinating all the team members was a task that brought out the best of my organizational capabilities. Being the Head of the Press Department was one of the best professional experiences that I have had because I was able to learn and grow from it both professionally and personally.
